Fleet telematics company Teletrac Navman has released a detailed list of the best and worst roads in America using data from transportation research nonprofit Trip.
Road condition is defined using several factors, including the International Roughness Index (IRI), a pavement smoothness measurement calculated annually by the Federal Highway Administration, and the Present Serviceability Rating (PSR), a pavement condition rating also determined by the Federal Highway Administration.

The report grades urban roadways from poor (deep cracks, large potholes, and other signs of distress cover 50-75% of the road) to good (new or nearly new roads with minimal signs of distress).
The report also ranks urban areas with the highest and lowest additional vehicle maintenance costs—defined as the average increased cost to maintain a vehicle due to poor road conditions.
