North Dakota ranks first, with a 44.44% decrease in fatal truck accidents over the last decade. According to a study by personal injury lawyers at Whitley Law Firm, this decline could be due to lower traffic density in many rural areas, safety improvements in the state’s highway infrastructure, and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations. The decrease in the state's oil production has also contributed to the reduction in heavy truck traffic on the roads, leading to fewer accidents.
Placing second is Maine, with a 37.50% decrease in fatal truck accidents over the last decade. Maine's success in reducing truck accidents can be linked to the state's lower population density and less traffic congestion. Additionally, Maine’s focus on improving road safety and the condition of its highways, as well as public safety campaigns targeting driver awareness, have contributed to the decrease in fatal accidents involving trucks.

Go Hawaii
Hawaii places fourth, with a 14.29% decrease in fatal truck accidents over the past decade. Hawaii's isolated geography and low level of commercial truck traffic compared to the mainland U.S. contribute to its lower accident rate. Furthermore, the state's investment in road safety measures and adherence to traffic regulations have made an impact on reducing fatalities.
US News
Idaho ranks fifth, with a 12.90% decrease in fatal truck accidents over the last decade. The state's wide-open spaces and less densely populated roads play a role in lowering the likelihood of fatal truck accidents.
