The Truck Writers of North America (TWNA) awarded Detroit Diesel Corp. its 2008 Technical Achievement Award for the DD15 engine turbo compounding during Technology & Maintenance Council’s (TMC) 2009 Annual Meeting, held in Orlando Feb. 9 to 12.

The Technical Achievement Award honors a product or service that exhibits technical innovation, has a wide applicability to the trucking industry, offers significant benefits to users and is widely available, TWNA said.

“The committee was impressed by the DD15's use of turbo compounding, which captures previously-wasted energy and converts it into productive power, improving fuel efficiency and performance,” said TWNA awards committee chairman James Menzies.

Also at the TMC Annual Meeting, trucking journalist Paul Abelson received the TMC Gerri Murphy Membership Award. Abelson, senior technical editor for the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association’s Landline and TravelCenters of America’s Road King magazines, won the award in recognition of his member recruitment and TMC development efforts, the organization said.
