Navteq has announced that Autodesk and Nokia are the Global Sponsors of the fifth annual Navteq Global LBS Challenge, which invites developers to build location-based solutions applications using Navteq map data and dynamic positioning technology for mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices.

The contest consists of five categories--content, enterprise, entertainment, navigation and social networking, and is divided into three regions: The Americas, Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC).

The global prize pool of cash and data licenses is worth nearly $3 million, in addition to giving participants a way to gain exposure for their product.

“We are delighted that the Navteq Global LBS Challenge, now in its fifth year, continues to be a proven catalyst for growth and innovation in the LBS industry," commented Winston Guillory, senior vp, global consumer and enterprise, Navteq. "We are extremely pleased to be joined by such a dynamic lineup of sponsors, all of whom are recognized for their leadership and support for developers in the wireless LBS space."
