TMW System, a provider of management software for the trucking industry, said electronic data interchange, a method of electronically exchanging information, use among its customers rose a record 23% in March compared with the same month last year.
“We processed just over a record one billion characters,” said David Wangler, president & CEO of TMW System. He added that this “demonstrates an increasing demand by shippers to do business with their carriers electronically. Carriers are also finding that EDI is becoming a requirement to do business with even small- and medium-sized shippers.”
Typically EDI is used between carriers and shippers for orders, confirmations and invoices, TMW said.
“EDI has been very important in our business,” said Nick Gerasimow, CFO of FLS Transport, a TMW customer. “It allows us to do business with blue-chip Fortune 5000 companies.”
