Motorola adds two rugged Nextel phones

One featuring a low price and the other Bluetooth technology for hands-free headsets, two new Motorola mobile phones for the Nextel Communications wireless network are both designed to withstand tough work environments. Both also support Nextel's new Group Connect walkie-talkie service, which allows instant nationwide connection with up to 20 other phones.

The Motorola i355 features a color display, voice recorder, speakerphone, voice-activated dialing and Java2 capability for only $99.99 with a two-year service contract, according to Nextel. Like other Nextel handsets, it support Direct Connect service and multimedia messaging.

The Motorola i605 is the first ruggedized mobile phone for the Nextel network to feature Bluetooth, enabling it to connect to wireless headsets, laptops and other devices using the new technology. It features a 2.2-in. color display with high contrast for daylight viewing, 32MB of flash memory for downloading business applications, a high-capacity battery good for 240 minutes of talk time, GPS, and Java2 capability. It can also be ordered pre-loaded with a number of fleet applications, including @Road Pathway. Cost for the 1605 is $299.99 with a two-year Nextel contract.
