ALK Technologies has released CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm, a combination technology leveraging the power of both ALK and Qualcomm software.
ALK’s CoPilot Truck utilizes ALK’s GPS navigation solution and PC*Miler routing. The new optimized solution adds Qualcomm’s In-Motion User Interface (IMUI) design for a safer driving experience with text-to-speech functionality.
The solution is available for Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform (MCP) 200 and 110 now and work is continuing on making it available for the MCP50, ALK said.
“CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm provides users of the Qualcomm Mobile Computing Platform a state-of-the-art navigation system,” said Norm Ellis, vice president of sales, services and marketing for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “ALK’s technology brings the potential for great cost savings for MCP-equipped fleets by improving fuel efficiency, driver safety, compliance and on-time performance.”
CoPilot Truck calculates optimal, truck-specific routes onboard without using mobile communications and off-board computations. Voice guided, truck specific turn-by-turn directions are automatically generated, and it will instantly calculate a new route if a driver misses a turn or goes off his planned route.
Truck-specific attributes and includes millions of points-of-interest, including truckstops, services, rest areas, and weigh stations. The driver-centric navigation solution delivers routes based on custom vehicle profiles, routing parameters and load-specific information, ALK said.
Advanced navigation features include clear 2D, 3D and driver safety guidance views with real signpost information and lane markings, along with detailed voice instructions using text-to-speech technology to pronounce full street names. Automatic alerts appear onscreen to warn drivers of upcoming potential hazards.
