Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is expanding its self-sealing DuraSeal commercial tire technology to include more mixed-service tires for off-road vehicles.
DuraSeal will be available on Unisteel G177 severe-service drive tires used in mining, logging, landfill, road-building and other severe-service trucking applications, said Rich Cottrell, product manager for mixed-service tires.
According to Cottrell, “Adding DuraSeal to the G177 helps reduce vehicle downtime due to punctures and also helps give their equipment added grip.”
He noted that the G177 tire also features a high-tear strength tread compound to help resist rubber chipping and chunking, and an enhanced casing design to improve strength, puncture resistance and retreadability. Cottrell said these strengths should be increased with the addition of DuraSeal, a gel-like, solvent-free compound built into the inner liner of the tire that seals punctures up to 1/4-in. in the tread area. www.goodyear.com
