Up-N-Atom Inc. has designed a truck bed that can load and unload 30,000-lb. payloads while the vehicle’s engine is off.
Called the Retriever, it is designed to eliminate the need for roll-backs and flatbed trailers. According to the Waukesha, WI-based company, the Retriever uses its No Idle System to power the truck bed using the truck’s air system. After the compressor fills the truck’s tanks, it continues pumping until the 60-gal. No Idle System tank is filled to 120 psi, a process that takes about four to six minutes.
Because the No Idle System tank can power the deck and ramp, drivers can shut off the engine while making deliveries. Up-N-Atom said the system can handle both the loading and unloading of loads weighing up to 30,000 lb.
