Throttle manipulates airflow for peak operation

A new air inlet throttle is said to precisely regulate airflow so that emissions control systems on commercial vehicles operate at peak efficiency.

The throttle, from Norgren, can manage airflow by boosting EGR controls when a vehicle uses exhaust gas recirculation, selective catalytic reduction and diesel particulate filters in combination. It will maintain high exhaust temperatures for maximum DPF and SCR system efficiency, Norgren said.

Norgren has designed these air inlet throttles specifically for these engines. The corrosion resistant design incorporates FKM seals, high temperature-range greases, steel gears, pressure die cast housings and a durable brushless electric geared motor. The machined flap meets tight tolerances inside the bore for precise sealing and is spring loaded to default to the open position as a failsafe, the company said.

 The brushless motor withstands vibration and high temperature to retain great precision over millions of cycles.
