Great Dane highlights latest innovations

March 27, 2014

LOUISVILLE. Great Dane Trailers put three of its latest trailer models on display this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The company also hosted the official debut of the Walmart Advanced Vehicle Experience tractor-trailer, which features a road-ready Great Dane trailer.

“At Great Dane our pace of innovation and growth is continuing to accelerate,” said Dean Engelage, president. “This year’s MATS show provides us with a great opportunity to demonstrate the many ways our trailers help lower the total cost of trailer ownership for customers throughout the Americas.”

All three of the features trailers at this year’s show include standard features such as Accuride wheels with advanced Steel Armor powder-coating technology; the Platinum Performance Plus wheel-end system with exclusive six-year limited warranty, and Grote’s Long-Life Light System with 100% LED MicroNova DOT lamps, dual-intensity stop lights and a fully sealed modular wiring harness covered by a 10-year warranty.

The Everest TL reefer on display is a specially-built prototype with design and construction advances that reduce the trailer’s weight to less than 12,000 lbs., the company said. Great Dane used “extensive R&D that allowed…engineers to push the envelope with enhancements such as new extrusion designs, new adhesives, and a state-of-the-art foaming process that enhances thermal efficiency, trailer strength and ease of repair.”

In addition to its wide range of standard features, the Everest TL show trailer also features ThermoGuard lining in the floors, wall and ceiling; a PunctureGuard bonded scuffband; Hendrickson’s new Ultraa-KTM air slider suspension and Accuride aluminum disc wheels with premium Accu-Armor surface treatment.

A Freedom LT flatbed combines steel and aluminum construction to provide a lightweight, low maintenance product with a lasting appearance and value. The Great Dane show trailer includes CorroGuard anti-corrosion coating on the trailer’s mainbeam as well as the undercarriage and support gear components. Other special features include an extended full-length rub rail, double pipe spools, a single coil hauling package with aluminum cross-members, a Hendrickson TireMaxx Pro tire inflation system, and Accuride Accu-Shield mirror-polish aluminum disc wheels.

Finally, a Freedom XP aluminum flatbed is on display. This trailer is nearly 1,000 lbs. lighter than a comparable steel-aluminum trailer, and is rated to withstand 60,000-lb. loads in four-foot sections and up to 120,000 lbs. of uniformly distributed loads. The MATS show trailer features the XP’s new optional appearance package, designed to enhance the trailer’s visual impact with features such as polished fill plates, added mud flaps and additional LED lighting. Other features include double pipe spools, a three-coil hauling package; a dunnage rack; a Hendrickson TireMaxx Pro tire inflation system; Accuride Accu-Shield mirror polish aluminum disc wheels and an AirWeigh digital scale.
