Castrol said that its Hypuron Advanced Formula semi-synthetic 10W-30 diesel engine oil has received category approval from the American Petroleum Institute (API). API has recognized the oil in the SN category for gasoline engines, which means fleets that run both diesel and gasoline engines can now use a single oil.
The SN category, introduced in October 2010, was established to provide better protection against high-temperature deposits, more stringent sludge control, and seal compatibility, Castrol said.
“A growing number of fleets with both diesel and gasoline engines require a single oil that does a great job of protecting engines in a range of scenarios,” said Kim Levine, U.S. marketing manager for Castrol Global Business. “And that’s something we know a lot about at Castrol. We listened to our customers’ needs and responded with a solution to meet those needs.”
Hypuron Advanced Formula 10W-30 was introduced in 2011 for “extreme extended drain intervals (up to 70,000 mi.) in Class 8 diesel engine applications,” said Levine. “While extreme extended drain intervals are not applicable for gasoline and light-duty diesel engine applications, Hypuron Advanced Formula 10W-30 offers proven protection and improved operational efficiency for mixed fleets.”
