Continental to become “standard tire” for Navistar

Oct. 6, 2015
Five year supply deal makes Continental the standard tire offering on all International-branded medium-duty, severe service and heavy-duty trucks as well as all IC school buses starting January next year.

Navistar and Continental Tire the Americas LLC recently sealed a five-year supply deal wherein Continental will become the standard tire offering on all International-branded medium-duty, severe service and heavy-duty trucks and all IC school buses.

“Continental offers a full range of durable, low rolling resistance tires that help drive fuel efficiency improvements and maximize uptime for our customers,” noted Bill Kozek, president of Navistar Truck and Parts, in a statement.

“Continental also provides offerings optimized for a wide range of commercial truck applications, which complements the diverse portfolio of vehicle options at Navistar,” he added.

For on-highway customers, Navistar said Continental tires are expected to deliver optimized wear resistance, ground pressure distribution, rolling resistance and tire weight which results in superior fuel economy performance that will be critical in helping the OEM meet the upcoming greenhouse gas (GHG) requirements.

For vehicles operating on- and off-highway, Navistar said Continental’s durable casing designs, extra tough compounds, plus high-traction treads with self-cleaning characteristics help deliver outstanding reliability.

The tire maker said it also offers a suite of replacement market services including ContiFleet roadside assistance, TruckFix Emergency Road Service Program, ContiTread retread products and services, and a network of more than 430 dealers across North America, which should be a boon to Navistar truck owners.

Navistar noted that Continental tires are currently standard on International Truck severe service vocational trucks and will become standard across Navistar’s portfolio starting January of 2016.
