Already available on the Dana D170 and D190 tandem drive axles, the OnDemand lube pump is now offered as an option on the company’s 40,000-lb. tandems, offering reduced weight and parasitic losses, lower operating temperatures and improved lubricant performance, according to the company’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group.
Heavy-duty models now available with the lube option include Dana’s DS404(P), DS405(P), DST40(P), DST41(P), DSH40(P) and DSH44(P).
By running only when axle lubrication is required, the OnDemand system can contribute to better fuel economy as well as better lubricant performance, according to Dana. It also requires no external filters, reducing service requirements, and reduces axle-carrier weights by 12 lbs. per tandem.
