Logger’s lasting legacy

Aug. 11, 2014

When enterprising Tacoma logger T.A. Peterman decided in 1939 to start selling to others the rugged chain-drive trucks he’d been building to haul logs out of the deep woods to his mill, Peterbilt was born.

Acquired in 1958 by Paccar, Peterbilt Motors Co. is this year celebrating its 75th birthday in a style that reflects one of its long-time brand messages: “Class Pays.”

For example, the Denton, TX-based OEM tells us that thousands of Peterbilt owners, enthusiasts and current and former employees are expected to gather at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton, CA, on Oct. 25 for the 75th Anniversary Peterbilt Truck Show.

The event is expected to host up to 400 show trucks representing milestone Pete models over the years, a “peoples’ choice truck beauty contest” and a reunion luncheon of current and former employees.  There will be supplier exhibits, music, guest speakers and a charity raffle for a 1976 Model 359.
