LOUISVILLE, KY. Factory-installed, in-dash navigation and infotainment are coming to Kenworth Truck Co. Class 5-8 vehicles. The company unveiled is proprietary Paccar NavPlus Navigation and Infotainment system at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville yesterday.

“Kenworth NavPlus is an exciting breakthrough in commercial vehicle technology,” said Preston Feight, Kenworth chief engineer. “This new cutting edge system provides powerful in-cab features, such as true truck navigation by Garmin, communication, diagnostics, and infotainment technologies that enhance truck productivity and the driving experience. It’s simply a more productive and smarter way to travel down the highway.”

The system includes truck-specific navigation, vehicle data, hands-free phone options, audio controls which include satellite radio, AM/FM, CD, MP3 and USB, camera inputs, roadside assistance and optional Internet access. It comes with a high-resolution, 7-in. color screen and 8 gigabytes of memory.

Standard on all premium trim offerings and optional on all others, the NavPlus is built on the Windows Embedded Automotive software platform and is expandable.

The system provides six virtual gauges showing current truck operational information, including oil temperature, transmission temperature, manifold boost, current and average fuel economy, diesel particulate filter status and more.

Voice-prompted, turn-by-turn navigation from Garmin is customized to a specific truck and its load, allowing drivers to route around restrictions. The phone system is Bluetooth enabled with a built-in microphone and speaker. It is compatible with a Bluetooth phone to allow hands-free speaking. It also logs calls, import contacts and enables text messaging.

NavPlus also includes an optional cellular modem, allowing access to the Internet. Video inputs allow installation of up to four video cameras.
