New features have been added to Peterbilt’s Model 320 to improve maneuverability, versatility, and driver comfort.
“Peterbilt’s low cab forward vehicle, the Model 320, is known for standing up to the harsh demands of the refuse and vocational industries with its uncompromising performance,” said Bill Jackson, Peterbilt general manager and Paccar vice president. “And with its new features offering added flexibility, increased efficiency and an optimal work environment, the Model 320 is the ideal truck for this challenging market.”
The Model 320 is suited for vocation markets such as refuse, construction, tanker, and fire service applications. It is available with diesel or alternatively fueled hydraulic hybrid powertrains.
Among the new options are the Sheppard HD94 front axle with ratings up to 12,000 lbs. and the Sheppard SD110 front axle with ratings up to 20,000 lbs. Both offer 10% wheel cut improvement and decreased turning radius, Peterbilt said.
The Sheppard SD110 is available with a single gear rated up to 14,600 lbs., a single gear with assist rated up to 20,000 lbs., or as a dual gear for either a left- or right-hand rated up to 20,000 lbs.
The truck also includes a lightweight battery box made of aluminum and fender-mounted. It takes up the same frame space as a traditional battery box and combines up to three batteries, a mount optional battery jumper posts and a disconnect all into one location. This configuration can save between 4 and 18 in. of linear frame space to accommodate a shorter wheelbase for added weight savings. The battery box can also be installed on either side of the truck, simplifying body installation, particularly when it comes to customers ordering the Hydraulic Launch Assist system or installing an automated side loader or residential front loader body, Peterbilt said.
For driver comfort, a new ergonomic seat has been added with an armrest, headrest and additional lumbar support. Peterbilt has also added tri-plane mirrors containing convex mirrors on the upper and lower planes along with a remote-controlled flat mirror on the middle plane. All three surfaces are heated and can be folded forward or backward.
