Two side skirts from Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. have received verification by the U.S. EPA SmartWay organization, the company has announced.
Using galvanized high tensile steel braces, the skirts, the Utility Side Skirt 120 (USS-120) and the Utility Side Skirt 160 (USS-160), are capable of flexing both inward and outward, allowing them to be bent back into their original shape if they are damaged.
Both skirts are made with UV-protected one-piece fiberglass reinforced plastic and are uniquely mounted to the support leg wingplate.
Both are CARB complaint, although the USS-120 as a stand-alone device is compliant only for refrigerated trailers.
According to Utility, the USS-120 has been verified by SmartWay to provide greater than a 4% fuel savings while the USS-160 is verified to achieve greater than a 5% fuel savings.
