WORTH, GERMANY. Daimler Truck's Worth plant not only produces the entire line of Mercedes-Benz medium- and heavy-duty on-road and vocational vehicles, it’s also the source of the Unimog and Zetros, two trucks with some amazing off-road abilities. Here are the two being put through their paces for a special press demonstration at an old gravel pit.
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 4000 is a 20,000-lb. GVW vehicle capable of navigating the toughest terrain in a variety of field service applications.
Able to carry payloads up to 20,000 lbs., the Zetros shares many components with Mercedes-Benz on-road truck models. Sized to fit in cargo aircraft, it’s often used to deliver emergency and relief supplies to areas inaccessible by roads.
In water or on dry land, the 27-ton Zetros can handle side angles up to 45 degrees.
The Unimog isn't fazed by high side offsets either.
Planetary gear drives on all four wheel ends provide the Zetros with high ground clearance and a high level of axle articulation.
The Unimog goes just about anywhere.
And the Zetros won't be left behind.
