May 23, 2013

Food City is the recipient of the 50,000th dry van trailer produced by Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. at its Glade Spring, VA, manufacturing plant.

Headquartered in Abingdon, VA, K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. (Food City’s parent company) is a locally owned company operating 106 retail supermarkets throughout the tri-state regions of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. The milestone trailer is a 4000D-X composite dry van.

“We would like to congratulate Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. and their team of dedicated associates on reaching such an important milestone in their plant’s history,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and CEO. “Their success has certainly been vital to our local economy, while providing quality jobs to scores of individuals throughout our region. As a locally owned and operated company ourselves, we’re extremely proud to partner with Utility to not only secure top quality trailers at a very competitive price, but a product that is manufactured right here in our own community by our friends and neighbors.”

Utility held a celebratory event at the Glade spring plant.

“From one privately held and family-owned company to another, we are pleased that Food City is the company that gets the 50,000th trailer from our Glade Spring plant,” said Craig Bennett, senior vice president, sales & marketing for Utility. “They are an important customer of ours and we will continue to support their growth by providing them with the highest quality products and solutions for their business.”

Utility produces refrigerated trailers, dry freight vans, flatbeds, and the Tautliner line of curtainsided trailers.
