Fuel prices remain on the rise

Feb. 18, 2015

National average retail pump prices for both diesel and gasoline continued to increase this week, according to data tracked by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Diesel went up three cents to $2.865 per gallon, the agency noted, though that is $1.124 per gallon cheaper compared to the same week in 2014.

Diesel prices increased in every region of the country except the Rocky Mountains, where prices slipped 6/10ths of a penny to $2.77 per gallon.

Only three regions sported diesel prices above the $3-per-gallon mark this week, according to EIA’s information: New England and the Central Atlantic region (both up 4.5 cents to $3.084 per gallon) plus California (up 8.1 cents to $3.142).

Gasoline prices also continued increasing this week, the agency noted, with the national average ticking up 8.3 cents to $2.274 per gallon, though that is $1.106 per gallon cheaper compared to the same week in 2014.

The West Coast reported the highest gasoline price spikes this week – up 14. 8 cents to $2.622 per gallon, which transforms to a spike of 10.9 cents to $2.319 when California is removed from the mix – while the Rocky Mountains remained the only region in the country where prices stayed under $2 per gallon at $1.995 despite a 4.9 cent jump.
