BlueCool Hybrid gives APUs shore power flexibility

LOUISVILLE, KY. The new BlueCool Hybrid gives truck operators the flexibility to use shore power to run Webasto Product North America’s BlueCool Thermal Storage APU family of products while still providing hotel loads.

Webasto made the announcement in Louisville as part of the Mid-America Trucking Show.

BlueCool Hybrid provides the long-duration cooling and hotel-load capabilities of a diesel auxiliary power unit without engine idling, diesel particulate filters of deep-cycle batteries.

The unit detects the presence of an outside power source and switches to shore power mode. It plugs into a standard three-pronged 120-volt AC power source and uses the shore power to supply electricity to the compressor.

When combined with the Webasto Air Top 2000 ST heater, the system provides a complete climate control system, Webasto said.

BlueCool Hybrid can power laptops and other electronics and can cool the truck for up to ten hours without being connected to a land-based power source by storing energy from the truck’s engine. It is U.S. EPA SmartWay verified and CARB ULEV II approved and includes a three-year warranty.
