Truckload carrier Barr-Nunn Transportation, which joined the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership program in 2006, has announced it has received a 1.25 rating-- the highest possible under the program.
“We are committed to continuous improvement in both energy efficiency and environmental friendliness,” said Rene Beacom, president of Barr-Nunn Transportation, Inc. “Our higher score is a reflection of the ongoing and substantial efforts of the entire Barr-Nunn team.”
The SmartWay program is a collaborative effort between EPA and the freight sector designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, and improve energy security. Participating companies set goals to reduce their carbon footprint.
Barr-Nunn set and met idling reduction goals, embarked on truck and trailer aerodynamic upgrades, improved pickup & delivery scheduling, and upgraded tires among other changes, the company said.
