Qualcomm Inc. and software developer Daffron & Associates announced they will collaborate to offer an integrated wireless solution for utilities, combining Qualcomm’s OmniTracs mobile communication system with Daffron’s Integration X Platform.
The result is a solution that enhances communication and automates the dispatch and completion of service orders and work orders by their workers in the field, Qualcomm said. It also provides continued service during storms and events where terrestrial-based become unavailable.
The combined solution provides improved visibility into schedules and tasks to help increase worker productivity, reduce fuel costs and minimize manual data entry, Qualcomm said. It also features two-way messaging and mapping and location.
Qualcomm noted that last year when utilities repaired damages some were unable to communicate to their back offices to meet FEMA reporting requirements, resulting in loss of federal reimbursement.
