Twenty-two drivers from across the U.S. have earned the 2000 Goodyear State Highway Hero Award, founded by the tire maker in 1983 to recognize professional drivers for their life-saving rescues and roadside assistance. One of these state finalists will be chosen as the North American Highway Hero at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville this March.

Cohesive friction brake linings from Carlisle Motion Control reportedly provide a 100% increase in mileage between relines and in brake-drum life. In use, the linings create a transfer layer of nonabrasive particles that smear onto the face of the brake drum, in contrast to conventional abrasive friction materials, where abrasive particles dig into the drum. A full-flow oil filter design that uses centrifugal force to remove contaminants is now available in two smaller sizes for midrange diesels and most V8 gasoline engines. The Vortex Active Filtration system is now offered in 35/8 and 41/4 in. filters featuring the same cleanable stainless steel screen and pressurized filter head as the company's heavy-duty models.
