By 2020, according to a new DOT report, trucking's share of domestic freight (by weight) will jump to 80% from the 71% level it reached in 1998. Measured by value, trucking's share will climb to 84%, up from 80% in '98. Study also predicts that from 1998 to 2020, trucking volume will rise by 83%, to 18.1-billion tons. Value of that freight will triple to $20.2 billion.
Jim McGeehan, manager of engine oil technology for ChevronTexaco Global Lubricants, has been named a ChevronTexaco Fellow. The prestigious distinction was given to recognize his contributions to both the company and the oil industry.
Ryder Transportation Services has announced it will only use ChevronTexaco Global Lubricants' coolant/antifreeze products for its U.S. and Canada-based truck fleets. Chevron Delo Extended Life Coolant/AntiFreeze (ELC) is slated for use in all factory-fill and service-fill applications on diesel-powered vehicles owned or maintained by Ryder Transportation Services.
Tucson, AZ-based OrderPro Logistics said it will acquire McCook, IL-based TransMex/USA, a 10-year old truckload carrier that also specializes in providing customs assistance, daily reporting and bilingual communications to clients on both sides of the border. TransMex/USA also has trucking authority to operate in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
OrderPro said TransMex/USA has annual revenues of about $2 million and gives the 3PL entry into the segment handling shipments originating in Mexico. OrderPro added that tapping into the estimated $201 billion surface trade between the U.S. and Mexico is a key part of its growth strategy.
