J.B. Hunt Transport Services will outfit 17,000 trailers with the FleetView Trailer Monitoring System from Terion Inc. Wabash National Corp. has already installed 800 of the untethered tracking systems in new Duraplate trailers delivered to Hunt. The balance will be installed by the end of the year, according to Terion. The mobile units can be updated or reprogrammed over the air, and the system's back office software is web-based with an XML interface for integration with a variety of legacy systems.

Asset-management software company Peregrine Systems Inc. has agreed to buy rival Remedy Corp. for $1.08 billion in cash and stock. Peregrine's software is also used by businesses to exchange goods, while Remedy makes help-desk and customer-service programs. Peregrine says the acquisition is expected to be finalized in late August or early September.
Internet logistics company FreightMatrix has announced that free spot-market freight matching and parcel shipment management services are now available on its web site. Schneider National Inc. has signed a multiyear contract with Comdata Corp. that will provide paperless fuel tax reporting for its entire 12,500-truck fleet. The fleet had been managing its fuel tax reporting in-house. Terms were not released, but Comdata says it believes it is “the largest outsourcing agreement ever reached in the ground fleet transportation industry for fuel tax reporting services.”
Jet Corr, the private fleet division of Pratt Industries, will install @Track Communications' TrackWare untethered trailer tracking systems in more than 300 trailers. In addition to location monitoring, Jet Corr will use optional sensors to capture critical trailer and load status information.
