Kaba Mas, a manufacturer of high-security locking solutions, selected the National Private Truck Council Annual Education Management Conference for the introduction of its new Portable (mount) Access Control System for trailers and shipping containers. Dubbed the Gitcon G-2, the new electronic seal and access control system works with existing door hardware assemblies to provide a high level of security and accountability.

According to the company, the Gitcon G-2 is a comprehensive trailer security system that incorporates controlled access and physical security, as well as accountability. “The system is really three virtual locks in one,” explained Stephen Pollack, marketing director. It can be programmed to operate as an electronic seal operated by a randomly generated four-digit seal number, as a sealable lock operated by RFID transponder only, or as a lockable electronic seal able to operate by seal number and/or RFID transponder.

In each mode, events are captured for audit — by time in the case of the first mode and by time and individual in the RFID and/or seal number/RFID mode. The system also enables the use of unique codes for government or other inspection agencies.

“In the later two modes, the system can be used to deny or grant authorized access based on any number of user defined variables,” according to Pollack. For example, fleets can program transponder cards to open only specific locks, during specific times or for a pre-determined period of time. “Its flexibility and portability offer private and for-hire carriers responsible for high-value cargo and high-risk cargo the ability to easily and quickly deploy high-security solutions for in-transit goods,” he noted.

Cost per unit is expected to be about $500 to $600, according to Pollack, and production is schedule to begin in mid-July.
