Haldex Brake Systems has introduced a severe-service automatic brake adjuster (ABA) for designed for applications with unusually high duty-cycle requirements such as transit fleets with high pressure door interlock systems. The ABA offers a strengthened cast housing and arm cross-section to improve strength and durability in extreme-duty cycle applications.
The unit is designed to maintain optimum brake adjustment by controlling the clearance between the brake lining and the brake drum. According to Haldex, maximum stopping power is achieved by ensuring the shortest brake chamber pushrod stroke without brake drag. This also avoids over-adjustment, which can cause uneven braking and premature lining wear.
The ABA is offered in 10 different housing configurations for rear-axle applications. Since locking pawls are not needed for removal or disengagement, brake relines are as easy as with the standard ABA.
