ArvinMeritor Inc. has provided six months advance notice to the Canadian Auto Workers Local 1941 of the closure of its Tilbury, ON braking facility in the event that negotiations for a renewal collective agreement are unsuccessful, the company has announced.

The manufacturer said it will seek concessions needed to maintain its presence in Tilbury, necessary due to current economic conditions and excess capacity.

“While the company hopes the negotiations will be successful, in order to meet the requirements of Letter #21 to the current collective agreement, ArvinMeritor is providing six months advance notice of the closure of the Tilbury facility, effective June 4, 2009,” the company said in a statement.
