Walter Bennett, former president & director of Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co., has passed away at the age of 93.
According to Utility, Bennett died on Sunday, Sept. 11, in his Los Angeles, CA, home.
Born in 1918 to Ella and H.C. Bennett, Walter Bennett was the younger brother of Frank and John Bennett. He married Betty Jean Montgomery in 1941. He and his wife had three children, Hal, Craig, and Laurie.
Hal Bennett is Utility’s president and Craig Bennett serves as senior vice president, sales & marketing.
Walter Bennett graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in Engineering. He joined his father, H.C., and uncle, E.W. Bennett, at Utility in 1940. His father and uncle founded the company in 1914. Following World War II, Walter and his brother John ran the company until 1982, when the reins were handed to Paul, Hal, and Craig Bennett.
“As we mourn the loss of our father, we remember a great man who modeled for us integrity in every aspect of his life,” said Hal Bennett, President of Utility. “His vision was pivotal in the success of our company, but more importantly his life will have an impact on our family for generations to come. With fond memories, my father will be greatly missed by all.”
