The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Assn. is kicking off its fifth “Truckers for Troops” campaign the week of Dec. 5-9 to raise money to pack and send care packages to service personnel stationed in combat zones, primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Although socks and snacks top the wish list of most military troops, even more special are care packages, cards and letters from home, according to OOIDA. To help make the campaign a success, the association is asking school children to address cards and letters to the troops.
During that week, truckers can join the association or renew their membership for $25, with 10% of that money going toward the care packages. OOIDA then matches the donations.
Those who would like to participate in the cards and letter portion of the program can send them to: Truckers for Troops, P.O. Box 1000, Grain Valley, MO, 64029. Towns or school names can be included, but do not include last names or other personal information.
