Charles Myers, a 35-year veteran of the transportation industry and former CEO of getloaded.com, has been named general manager of uShip Freight. Myers will oversee the company’s recently-launched brokered loads solution and private network freight exchange services.

uShip is an online marketplace of spot market freight exchanges.

“What intrigues me about uShip is its unique transactional exchange and how it goes beyond the traditional load board model,” said Myers, who will remain based in Richmond, Va. “All brokered loads on uShip, whether in the more open exchange or through a private network, are posted with fixed-price offers with competitive carrier bidding and tendering taking place online. This is designed to drive down broker costs and provide carriers with a fair market value for their loads. Joining uShip at this time is exciting for me as it grows its brokered loads business and continues to expand globally.”

Myers was most recently director of international business development with England Logistics, a Top 10 3PL and wholly-owned subsidiary of C.R. England. He spent six years (2002-08) as president of GetLoaded.com and Getloaded International, and served four years on the board of directors of the Transportation Intermediaries Association.

“We’ve spent the last six years building and refining a robust exchange for various kinds of freight focused mainly on the retail side of the shipping transaction,” said Matt Chasen, CEO and founder of uShip. “As we now expand into brokered freight and offering private network exchanges for brokers, Charles is perfectly suited to help us do this successfully. As a consultant to uShip over the past couple months, he’s already had a huge influence on the strategy, development and launch of our brokered services – and as gm of uShip Freight, his experience and insights will continue to be invaluable.”
