Human slavery is a hideous and growing problem worldwide and the global effort to combat this crime is seeking the help of truckers in the U.S. via a new web-based effort located at truckersagainsttrafficking.com.
"We strongly encourage members of the trucking industry to visit this new website that has been created to help combat a very serious problem,” said Craig Johnson, CEO of trucking software provider Tenstreet LLC. “We are all responsible to do what we can to help those who have been victimized, and to give them a chance for a good life."
Human trafficking, a modern-day term for slavery, is a $32 billion worldwide industry with more than 27-million people enslaved. It’s a crime that’s been reported in all 50 states, with the number of victims in the U.S. estimated to be in hundreds of thousands, according to Chapter 61 Ministries, which established the new website with the help of the Christian Truckers Network.
The groups said the website has been set up to enable truck drivers and other travelers to help stop the spread of this criminal activity, with links to informational resources, including FBI intelligence reports, videos of real-life slavery victims; and news and updates on the problem, as well as how to contact Truckers Against Human Trafficking to lend support.
