AGC opens Annual Convention

Associated General Contractors of America 86th Annual Convention

LAS VEGAS. The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) kicked off its 86th Annual Convention here today at The Bellagio Hotel. The meeting, which runs from March 14-18, is being held in conjunction with CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2005, the blockbuster construction show.

AGC said its convention will feature the latest construction news from industry experts, discussions on highway reauthorization, materials pricing, environmental trends, and safety innovations. AGC will also boast the announcement of the Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering awards, AGC/Willis safety awards and Aon Build America awards.

Highlights of the meeting will include:

  • An Economic Issues forum luncheon scheduled for tomorrow (March 15) will feature a panel of leading economists, including AGC chief economist Ken Simonson, speaking on pricing and availability of construction materials
  • A Highway and Transportation Div. meeting on Thursday (March 17) will feature Ken Mead, Inspector General, U.S. Department of Transportation, who will address the importance of ensuring integrity in the Federal-aid Highway Program and AASHTO president Jack Lettiere who will provide the “view from the states” on TEA-21 reauthorization

    According to AGC, it is the largest and oldest national construction trade association in the U.S. AGC represents more than 33,000 firms, including 7,000 of general contractors and over 12,000 specialty contracting firms.
