Rand McNally's Transportation Data Management subsidiary recently licensed its IntelliRoute software to Best Transport, an application service provider (ASP) with a focus in transportation for the metals and lumber industry.

Best Transport's Web-based ASP enables shippers, carriers and 3PLs to progress from traditional phone/fax methods of carrier selection and shipment tendering to an automated, efficient electronic process.

Rand McNally IntelliRoute will help ensure accurate mileage calculations when generating contracted rates for each lane, said Patrick Taylor, chief technology officer for Best Transport.

Shippers, carriers and 3PLs can integrate the ASP solution seamlessly into their existing enterprise resource planning systems or use a Web browser to select, schedule and confirm loads. Best Transport identifies the best-priced carrier for the specific load based on the application of the shipper's business rules to the load details. The ASP tenders the loads to the carriers, and provides tracking and tracing of shipments.
