Cummins Inc. has announced the addition of the ISX 385 ST, which is compliant to EPA '02 standards, to its heavy-duty on-highway product engine line.

Cummins executive director of marketing Tom Kieffer said the new engine has 1450/1550 lb-ft torque. It is designed for fleets looking for a higher displacement engine option, with increased durability and higher residual values, for applications that don't require an engine brake.

The engine maker added that it is looking to improve the fuel economy of its ISX and ISM diesel engines with Load-Based Speed Control (LBSC).

LBSC is a patented feature designed to manage engine speed based on operating conditions. The system promotes more efficient operation by limiting the usable engine speed during low and intermediate power requirements, said Cummins.
