Despite a national scare of fuel shortages and gouging following the terrorist attacks, the average retail price for a gallon of diesel has risen only 3.5 cents, according to the Department of Energy.

The department’s Energy Information Administration reported today that the average price stands at $1.527, up from last week’s $1.492, showing that last Tuesday’s attacks effected prices less than the shutdown of a Citgo refinery in the Midwest due to structural problems did last month.

The West Coast region actually saw prices fall 1.4 cents, from $1.616 to $1.602.

Prices rose 3.4 cents on the East Coast to $1.449, 2.2 cents in New England to $1.488, 3.8 cents to $1.535 in the Central Atlantic region. Those three regions were the most affected by the attacks.

In the Midwest, where they are still dealing with the Citgo refinery closure, the average price rose 4.4 cents to $1.594.
