Wireless data provider Nexterna Inc. has announced acquiring the assets of FreightQuest, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cummins Inc., based in Windham, NH.

FreightQuest is a stand-alone freight dispatch and management operation that will be marketed as part of Nexterna's FleetGo product line for the transportation industry.

"FreightQuest provides a much needed solution for the LTL, private fleet and logistics markets, and is a perfect complement to our Mobile Resource Management solutions portfolio," said Mike Hedge, senior vp of marketing and sales for Nexterna.

The FreightQuest management system, which runs on a Windows NT platform, combines Global Positioning System (GPS) location tracking, maps and driver/trip task lists with vehicle and resource availability screens to instantaneously provide information on a specific vehicle’s or an entire fleet's status and availability.

By using the system's browser-based drag-and-drop functions for scheduling pickups and deliveries, operations personnel can perform flexible, real-time dispatching without having to key in data by hand.
