Heavy Vehicle Electronic License Plate, Inc. (HELP) has announced enrollment for PrePass, its system that allows transponder-equipped commercial trucks to bypass stops weighstations, has surpassed 250,000 trucks. This milestone was reached via a 48% boom in the number of carriers using the technology in 2003.
“Time is money—especially with the hours of service regulation that are now in place,” Dick Landis, HELP president told Fleet Owner. “Time spent at a weight station is a waste, especially when you don’t have to.”
PrePass saves the industry 200,000 hours of time and nearly one million gallons of fuel each month, according to HELP.
To date 242 PrePass sites have been deployed across 24 states and there have been 100 million bypasses. PrePass now serves over 30,000 carriers—a long way since PrePass started its California operation back in 1995. “Persistence pays off— that’s one of our trademarks; it is our focus on finding solutions for the government and the trucking industry,” Landis said.
Now that HELP has reached this milestone it intends to further expand its operations to more states, as well as to develop its E-ZPass pilot program, a toll system that implements PrePass technology.
“We have a national map with a mark for each PrePass station. It’s fun to watch that chart grow steadily over the years,” Landis added.
