TransForce, has completed a $72.7-million deal for Canadian Freightways, a subsidiary of the bankrupt U.S.-based Consolidated Freightways Corp.

The purchase, announced in August, stipulates that Canadian Freightways will operate as an independent division of TransForce under its current management.

This action comes on the heels of TransForce’s acquisition this month of Quebec trucking company Transport George Lacaille Ltee.

"Canadian Freightways is a profitable, well-managed enterprise and adding its operations to the TransForce group will provide unparalleled coverage to our customers across Canada and beyond," said Allan Bedard, president and CEO of Montreal-based TransForce.
