The Descartes Systems Group Inc. said that USFreightways Corp. has selected Descartes Routing and Scheduling to enhance customer service while managing "last-mile" delivery costs in their U.S. operations.

USFreightways will use the system to get in-the-moment visibility of shipment status, helping the carrier to respond to customer inquiries and potential delays in deliveries.

Descartes said USFreightways will also use Routing and Scheduling to enhance its customer responsiveness.

"The customer service value that we anticipate is significant," said USFreightways senior vp of strategic marketing Doug Waggoner. "We will now have the opportunity to provide our customers with accessible real time shipment status and the assurance of continuous tracking to guarantee delivery."
