International Truck and Engine Corp. has updated its 8600 model regional-haul tractor with a variety of new features, including new tire and battery monitoring technology along with other electronic functions such as a parking brake alarm, automatic windshield wiper speed control, pre-trip exterior light inspection and a theft-deterrent system.

Gaylynn Skelnik, segment marketing manager for heavy vehicles, said a high-resolution on-board color display screen will make it easy for drivers to check tire pressure and battery health – without leaving the truck cab. The tire pressure and battery voltage monitoring system relies on International’s multiplexed electrical system and pressure sensors, she said.

“These features will reduce downtime and roadside repair expenses,” said Skelnik. “If a tire is low or a battery is about to fail, this technology warns the driver in advance.”
