International Truck and Engine Corp. has hired Helmut Endres away from Germany’s Volkswagen AG (VW) to be its new vp of engineering for International’s engine group.
At VW, Endres most recently served as executive director of powertrain development. He’s replacing Mark Stasell, who is returning to International’s truck group to oversee business development.
International said Endres will be responsible for engine engineering and product development for the company’s new MaxxForce heavy-duty diesel engine line—due to be introduced in 2007—as well as other International-branded engine products.
International said it hopes to tap Endres’ 25 years worth of technical expertise with both diesel and gasoline engines, including his 10-year stint at VW where he led a global team of 2,000 engineers and helped develop the high-performance V-10 TDI diesel engine for VW’s Touareg sport utility vehicle (SUV) and Phaeton luxury sedan.
“Helmut is one of the world’s leading authorities on diesel engines and has a disciplined approach to design, validation, cost controls and product quality,” said Jack Allen, president of International’s engine group. “He’s going to help us focus on our corporate strategy to build great products, build a more competitive cost structure and drive profitable growth.”
