Supply chain solutions provider Red Prairie Corp. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Alta A/S, giving it an automotive manufacturing solutions arm for suppliers.

Through the acquisition, Red Prairie aims to provide the automotive industry with “build to order” solutions, as well as the ability to handle consumer demand for customized vehicles. Red Prairie will provide Alta’s PowerB2O software and related services.

Red Prairie manages spare parts distribution for several clients in the automotive industry, including Volkswagen, Volvo Trucks, Mann Trucks, Skoda, General Motors and Honda. The acquisition will integrate build to order solutions with supply chain solutions to allow Red Prairie to better serve its customers, the company said.

“Consumers today expect to purchase cars and trucks to their exact specification,” said Red Prairie company leader John Jazwiec. “…Automotive manufacturers require software that enables them to exactly sequence the customer specified parts required to assemble a vehicle.”

B2O is now utilized by tier-1 automotive component suppliers, including 50 sites throughout Europe, the U.S., South America and China.
