    The Dept. of Transportation has packed a lot of information into its 118-page Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to require speed limiting devices on heavy-duty vehicles. Here we highlight some of the basics: the cost-benefit analyses on the three possible speed settings, the requirements for new trucks, the possibility of requiring older trucks to be retrofit, and the proposed penalties for non-compliance.

    Coming up, we’ll take a deeper dive into the data behind the proposal, and review the research on which DOT is basing the proposal.
