ACT Expo 2014 draws global audience of 4,400+ to talk clean transportation

The 2014 Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Southern California shattered multiple records to confirm its position as the largest clean fleet event in North America’s history.  The buzz following the most-talked-about show in the industry is being heard around the globe, as the 4,400+ attendees from six continents take their learnings and hands-on experiences back home.  ACT Expo was one show not to be missed, as several dozen industry announcements and product debuts took place amid fanfare during sessions and on the show floor, including:

  • Penske announcing the deployment of 85 CNG trucks for short-term rentals;
  • GM announcing pricing of its 2015 Chevrolet Impala CNG bi-fuel vehicle;
  • Phoenix Motorcars debuting its new 14-passenger, all-electric shuttle bus;
  • The debut of the CARB- and EPA-certified Westport WiNG Ford F-150;
  • The debut of new back-of-cab CNG fueling systems from Agility Fuel Systems, dHybrid Systems, Quantum, and Ryder System;
  • Cenntro Motor debuting its all-electric utility vehicle for North America;
  • Chart unveiling a new, more compact LNG vehicle fuel tank system;
  • U.S. Hybrid displaying its hybrid electric street sweeper; and,
  • Parker Hannifin debuting its CNG vehicle gas regulator system.

The sold-out show floor filled the entire Long Beach Convention Center, featuring more than 200 of the industry’s leading fueling, engine and technology providers.  Attendees had hands-on access to more than 75 alternative fuel vehicles across all alternative fuels and weight classes—from several OEM prototypes that included Ford, Toyota, and others to a wide array of commercially available models.

More than 30 clean transportation industry associations endorsed the event, joining an impressive group of official event partners:  American Trucking Assns., NAFA Fleet Management Assn., the U.S. DOE’s National Clean Cities program, and the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay program.  The Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) returned as a presenting sponsor along with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD).

Building on these partnerships, ACT Expo hosted multiple co-located events, including NGV Global 2014; PERC’s Lead the Way Event; the California Hydrogen Business Council Spring Summit; a Trucking Efficiency workshop led by the North American Council for Freight Efficiency and Carbon War Room; a SmartWay workshop led by Penske; a Women in ACT Summit; an Alternative Fuel Toolkit workshop by the AQMD; and the BSR Future of Fuels Spring Forum.

With nearly 60 tailored alternative fuel engine, equipment, and infrastructure sessions to choose from, ACT Expo offered unrivaled educational opportunities for the 600+ fleets in attendance.  With a focus on peer-to-peer learning, leading public and private fleets shared first-hand case studies on how alternative fuel vehicles have helped their operations reduce fuel costs and emissions.  These included Anheuser-Busch, AT&T, Coca-Cola,  Dillon Transport, Edison International, Enterprise Holdings, Frito-Lay, The Kroger Co., Pacific Gas & Electric, Penske, Ryder System, SoCalGas, UPS, and Waste Management, among many others.

“It was an honor to make clean transportation history at the fourth annual show,” said Roy Willis, PERC’s president and CEO.  “The excitement and energy was palpable for the road ahead.”

If we missed you this year, mark your calendars for ACT Expo 2015, taking place May 4-7, 2015, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, TX.
