U.S. Oil and Ruan to open CNG station in Des Moines

Nov. 13, 2014

U.S. Oil and Ruan Transportation Management Systems have inked a joint agreement to build a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Des Moines, IA. It will be located at 120 NE Broadway Avenue.

U.S Oil noted that it currently has 38 CNG stations under its GAIN Clean Fuel brand open or under construction across the country. The Appleton, WI-based firm focuses on serving motor carriers across the U.S. and said its strategic goal to open more than 100 CNG stations within the next two years.

“This is another great location for us,” said Bill Renz, general manager for GAIN Clean Fuel. “We're developing a network of CNG stations along major carrier routes that create significant benefit for customers and meet a growing need in the industry. We believe CNG satisfies a desire by carriers who want to leverage the savings and environmental benefits of CNG over diesel fuel."

Ruan, which provides contract carriage and supply-chain solutions, operates 260 locations nationwide. Its customers include grocery, food processing, retail, dairy, metals and manufacturing companies. The company currently operates 85 CNG-fueled tractors in the Midwest and plans to add more such power units “where there is a fit for CNG.”

“This is a significant next step forward for our company,” said Ruan’s CEO Steve Chapman. “CNG use in the dedicated contract carriage industry is growing, and this not only gives us a competitive advantage by offering an additional lower cost fueling choice, it helps us meet our sustainability goals.

“We believe it's more than just good business, it’s a commitment to making our trucking operations part of the equation when it comes to the stewardship of the environment,” he added.

U.S. Oil noted that in the past three months, it has held grand openings for GAIN Clean Fuel stations in Ohio, Colorado and Wisconsin. Each of these stations is also open for use by other companies and the general public. The company has posted online a complete list of its stations.
