DTNA issues recall for 110,000 trucks

March 7, 2012

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of a recall of approximately 110,000 Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star trucks manufactured since 2006.

According to Daimler, the recall affects vehicles using Detroit Diesel EPA 07 and EPA 10, DD13, and DD 15/16 engines manufactured from Jan. 20, 2006, through Feb. 20, 2012. No injuries have been reported, it said.

The recall is because “the pump to rail high pressure fuel line support system used on these engines is sensitive to assembly torque and may be damaged during service work. As a result of other repairs, the line supports may loosen, potentially leading to fuel line cracking and a fuel leak,” a recall notice said.

Affected vehicles include: Freightliner 114SD (2012-2013); Freightliner Business Class M2 (2006-2013); Freightliner Cascadia (2006-2013); Freightliner Century (2006-2013); Freightliner Columbia (2006-2013); Freightliner Coronado (2006-2013); Sterling 9500 (2006-2013); Western Star 4700 (2012-2013); Western Star 4900 (2006-2013); and Western Star 6900 (2006-2013).

Customers can contact the NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov. DTNA said it will notify affected customers and replace the affected parts free of charge.
