BigRoad, a provider of fleet applications, and NexLink Communications have teamed up for a new mobile solution to help drivers avoid paper-based compliance.

NexLink offers wireless devices.

The “Open Truck Alliance” will offer the BigRoad app preloaded on all NexLink devices sold under the Alliance. Each device will be a fully compliant electronic logging device and offer effortless and error-free electronic driver logs; real-time tracking of HOS availability, location and traffic; streamlined vehicle inspection reports; roadside inspection risk dashboard; and document management and instant messaging.

Also, users will have access to state-by-state mileage reporting linked to GPS.

“New FMCSA guidance has opened the door to expanded mobile technology use in the trucking industry, allowing drivers to more efficiently meet strict HOS requirements, lay the groundwork for electronic logging device legislative compliance,” said Terry Frey, co-founder and COO of BigRoad. “Until now, the challenge with adding new technologies has been the confusing, fragmented buying process where hardware, software, carrier service, mountings and other support services all required separate agreements.  BigRoad and NexLink are out to change that with a one-stop-shop that coordinates everything a fleet owner/operator needs.”

Frey said a 10-truck fleet could save as much as $30,000 a year by implementing the BigRoad/NexLink solution by avoiding costly HOS audit fees and fines, and by eliminating the need for faxes.

“Fleet operators clearly see the advantages that the BigRoad app provides.  Now, they can look to NexLink for affordable end-to-end packages inclusive of hardware (phones and/or tablets), software, customizable rate plans, insurance, accessories such as brackets and mounting, and mobile device tracking,” said Jeff Messano, NexLink president. “No more guesswork. No more confusion and running around. Customers need only to place one phone call and they’ll be set up and ready to roll.”
